Contributions by past captains and vice captains

The Badminton team of the University of Moratuwa has achieved many accolades at both National and International levels and has organized Dr. Amith Munindradasa Challenge Trophy every year since 2007.

In the year 2007, this event was organized under the captaincy of Irusha Jayawardena, Indika Wijeratne and vice captains Thilina Lalitharatne and Anne Thushari Fernandopulle, as a men’s Inter University tournament.

In 2008, a women’s event and a National level open event were introduced and was led by the captains Thilina Lalitharatne, Madhubashini Sumanaweera, and vice captains Dinush Kodithuwakku and Thilini Liyanagama.

The tradition followed on in 2009 led by captains Duminda Nishad, Thilini Liyanagama and vice captains Nishantha Hettiarachchi and Biruntha Ariyaratnam.

In 2010 it was organized under the leadership of Nishantha Hettiarachchi, Kasuni Liyanage and vice captains Malaka Gunasekara and Chamanthi Illeperuma.

In 2011 the badminton team turned a new page in the tournament by hosting an International inter-university event led by captains Nadika Jayasooriya, Malshini Mallikarachchy and vice captains Chanuka Nanayakkara and Savini Madurasinghe which was a great success.

In the year 2012 it was organized under the leadership of Tharidha Muhandiramge, Savini Madurasinghe and vice captains Chamath Gunasekara and Audarya Guruge which was held successfully for the second consecutive year.

Year 2013 it was organized under the leadership of Akila Upendra, Akila Dissanayake and vice captains Madhawa Wijeratne and Audarya Guruge which was held successfully for the third consecutive year.

After Successful years of 2014 and 2015 with Inter University Badminton championships, for the first time in history University of Moratuwa has been able to become the Champions in SLUG 2016 with the leadership of Sakmal Kariyawasam, Achini Herath and vice captains Manuj Wijeratna and Thilini Nadeera.

And this year…….
University of Moratuwa Badminton team led by captains Lahiru Ambegoda and Thilini Nadeera and vice captains Disal Kuruppu Arachchi and Sachini Hewage is hosting the UMiSF for the Seventh consecutive year, inviting 22 universities from 4 countries.
